A serious collision has closed a road in Rye.

The crash happened at about 1.30pm outside Sowdens Oast on the B2089 Udimore Road, near Rye.

A Ford Ka hatchback car and a lorry collided head-on. A telegraph pole was also damaged in the collision according to police.

A woman passenger in the Ford cut her head and two other passengers, both men, the elder of whom was the driver, were also hurt.

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance landed in a nearby field but it is unclear if any of those injured required being airlifted.

The road has been closed between its junction with the A28 at Broad Oak, Brede, and Float Lane, Rye, while emergency services are at the scene.

Anyone who saw the collision or who has other information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting serial 686 of 24/2.
