A 34-year-old man has been charged following a firearms incident which brought part of the city centre to a standstill.

Mark Wright, of Lewes Road, Brighton, was arrested at 5.15pm on April 7 in a block of flats at the Vogue Gyratory junction.

He was last charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

Wright has been remanded in custody and will appear before Brighton magistrates today (April 9) Inspector Adele Tucknott said: "We would like to thank the witnesses who came forward to help the investigation and the public for their co-operation as the area did come to a standstill while we dealt with the incident."

The busy Brighton junction was closed for three hours during the incident.

A huge police cordon shut off Lewes Road, Hollingdean Road, Bear Road, and Upper Lewes Road.

Cylists, motorists and pedestrians were all redirected until the roads were re-opened after 5.30pm.

If someone brandishes a fake gun around with the intent of scaring people chances are they're simply an idiotic, nasty person. Why target people with mental health problems? Your comment is a rediculous, ignorant stereotype.

So a 34 year old man in slippers was arrested yesterday, no weapon, firearm or stick has been found yet he has been charged with firearms offences. And what's with his face being covered up today, in the same pic yesterday you could see he was grumpy, as Ben said lol.
