The Argus: Road to reopen after months of work Road to reopen after months of work

A ROAD will reopen tomorrow after weeks of repairs following a major collapse.

Thames Water has completed repair work on the A23 in Crawley and the road will reopen tomorrow afternoon.

Work began on the busy route began in April when a leak on a pressurised sewer pipe was discovered to the side of the road.

The work led to a full closure of the road between the Fleming Way and Lowfield Heath roundabout to allow new sewer pipes could be laid under the road.

The last of the new pipe was installed last week and over this weekend the team worked to repair the road and make it ready for traffic again.

One lane of the carriageway will remain closed for a further two to three weeks while the construction site is dismantled and equipment is packed away.

The southbound carriage reopened last month.

Mark Taylor, Thames Water’s head of programme delivery, said: “We’re really pleased to be finally opening the road.

“This was a big job, but one that absolutely needed to be done.

“We know that this closure was an inconvenience to drivers, residents, and businesses, and we’d like to thank everyone for their patience.”
