FOUR men have been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Police were called to a property in King’s Road, Brighton, yesterday morn- ing following a report of a distressed woman outside.
Two men aged 30 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of rape and possession with intent supply a Class A drug.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and possession of a class A drug and a 28-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of rape. A fifth man, a 22-year-old from Hove, was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine.
Police want to speak to a man on a mountain bike who spoke to a taxi driver and the distraught woman in the vicinity of Plaza Mansions at around 8.30am.
Businesses owners were only alerted to the incident when they arrived yesterday morning to discover a fire alarm had been tripped. The incident was reported to have taken place at around 1am.
According to workers there was a strong police presence throughout the day with numerous forensic officers going in and out of the property.
Officers from CID were also at the residential block, situated between Middle Street and Ship throughout the day. Surrounding businesses were in a state of shock over the alleged attack.
One owner, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I didn’t know anything about it until I came in this morning and the fire alarm had been sounded.
“I am completely shocked at what I am hearing - it seems absolutely ridiculous that it should happen here.”
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Five men have been arrested after police were called to a property in Brighton on Sunday morning following a report of a distressed woman outside.
"Police particularly want to speak to a man on a mountain bike who spoke to a taxi driver and the distraught woman in the vicinity of Plaza Mansions at around 8.30am.
