SCHOOLCHILDREN hoped to promote mindfulness by taking part in a meditation flashmob.

Pupils from Brighton Buddhist school Dharma Primary held the ‘med mob’ in the city’s Pavilion Gardens yesterday. The Ladies’ Mile Road school, which celebrates its 20th year this year, said the event highlighted how mindfulness and meditation were “integral” to its ethos.

Organisers also hoped the mob would encourage the people of Brighton to take a “mindful minute” out of their busy lives each day.

The meditation event coincides with a week-long visit to the school by monastics from the Plum Village Buddhist community in France, founded by zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.

Hanh was recently asked by Google and the World Bank to help the firms become more compassion and effective organisations.
