ONE man’s trash is another man’s treasure – or in this case, artwork.

University of Brighton graduate Sophie Dickson presented her first major exhibition on Saturday after winning funding from Arts Council England.

Her ‘Junk is Beautiful’ show at the former Municipal Market in Circus Street, Brighton, uses everyday rubbish or junk to create stunning art pieces.

Sophie, whose work features old pieces of wood, video tapes and wheels, graduated with a First Class Honours in Fine Art two years ago and has just completed art residencies in China. She said: “I’m inspired by socio-political and aesthetic issues and use different materials and every day 3D objects to form a hybrid, part-painting, part-sculpture.

“Collages of images, writings and objects in a singular piece have become a common feature in my work.”
