BRIGHTON Palace Pier is to get a walk of fame exhibition which will mark the city’s rich musical history.

Among those set to feature are big name artists with links to Brighton including Rod Stewart, The Who, Jeff Beck and more current artists such as Rizzle Kicks, who went to school in the city.

The Walk of Fame cultural attractions were established in 1999, created specifically for the UK, with the first one in Brighton in 2002, at the marina.

The Brighton Music Walk of Fame will be a permanent and free tribute to the many musicians, artists, composers and DJs closely associated with the city and wider Sussex from the early Sixties to present day.

David Courtney, chief executive of Walk of Fame Ltd, said: “It will be a great addition to the city’s culture, allowing the stars of yesterday and today to be paid tribute to in a very public and memorable way.

“We have such a diverse musical history in Brighton that it cannot be forgotten.

“Instead of being in the ground this time, the individual plaques with the names of artists will be fixed to lamp posts that line the boardwalk on the pier.

“This will be another spectacle for visitors and residents alike to enjoy when they are enjoying a day out at the pier.

“It will continue to grow as the years go on to cover a historic selection of talented musicians that have added to our culture and entertained us all.”

There will be 52 names inducted this year for the display on the pier, six of which will be nominated by members of the public.

Anne Martin is the general manager of Brighton Palace Pier.

She said: “We think it will be a very interesting addition to the pier experience and will be positive for the number of visitors to the pier in future.

“Brighton is such a good place to experience excellent music and I have no doubt that this new attraction will be very popular with our visitors.”

The exhibition’s charity partner, the Teenage Cancer Trust, will be receiving donations from revenue made by Walk of Fame Ltd.

The launch event for the exhibition will be held at Horatio’s Bar on the pier on Thursday, September 14.

It will be hosted by TV presenter Mike Read, with live performances.
