A dance studio in a once derelict building is offering unknowns the chance to audition for hit pop videos.

Bird Studios is set in the old library building on New England Road which sat vacant for 12 years, but has now been transformed into a creative arts hub as part of the London Road regeneration scheme.

Performing arts insider Mia Terry, who presented Channel 4’s Dance Music Television, wanted to bring the professional standard of teaching to Brighton, as featured in the likes of TV’s Pineapple Dance Studios.

But the performing arts studio, which offers a range of dance, acting and musical styles, is open to everyone regardless of age, talent or experience.

Mia said: “We wanted to create an eclectic mix. The adult dance market is getting really big, people are interested in getting back into ballet and tap.”

She has roped in Alex Kordek, who has choreographed for Beyonce and Rihanna, to take a class at the studio.

He is looking for Brighton dancers to audition for his latest promo video.

Mia added: “We had a guy who couldn’t dance when he came to us and eight months later he was appearing in music videos.

“Anyone can come along and catch our attention.

“It’s very money-motivated in London, but there’s phenomenal raw talent in Brighton.

“I’ve been blown away. It’s really exciting for us to open here.”
