A SUSSEX winemaker is proving that her fizz is the business after winning a haul of medals at a national competition.
Emma Rice, who leads Hattingley Valley Wines team, has followed up her gold medal success at the Decanter World Wine Awards with clutch of medals at the UK Vineyard Association Wine of the Year Competition 2014.
Two golds and a silver medal were awarded to the winery’s first release of wines, with Plumpton College graduate Emma Rice scooping the McAlpine UK Winemaker of the year trophy 2014.
Ms Rice is a former Hove resident and graduated from Plumpton College with a BSc in Viticulture and Oenology.
She said: “I am absolutely delighted.
“Although, as the head winemaker, I get to receive the award, it is definitely a team effort.
“The vineyard team, headed by Jim Bowerman and Romain Henrion, produces fantastic grapes for me to work with and in the winery Jacob Leadley and Will Perkins are integral to the quality winemaking process.”
