A family bakery has opened its first retail store inspired by a visit to New York City.

Raise will sell gourmet baked goods, sweet treats and desserts based on classic British baking techniques with an American twist.

The bakery has sold directly to retailer from its production kitchen in Worthing for the last six years – but the new site in Church Road, Hove, is its first customer store.

Raise has also launched a brand new range of gourmet doughnuts in store, as well as ice cream sandwiches, 20 varieties of brownies and ‘create your own’ milkshakes.

Gluten free, vegan and healthier options are also available at the store.

Jeremy Jacobs, managing director at Raise, said: “We are very excited to be launching our delicious range of gourmet doughnuts, inspired by a recent trip to New York City.

“We have worked hard to create some fabulous flavours and customers can also choose any item in store and have their very own milkshake blended with doughnuts, brownies or cupcakes.”

The store will also feature a retail space that will be stocked with cake tins, tools and fondants for customers who want to recreate the experience at home.

Jeremy, who is ‘entrepreneur in residence’ at City College Brighton and Hove, explained how the combined space was unique.

He added: “Nothing like this exists, a place where customers can choose to pick up their sweet treats ready made or buy the tools and ingredients to start from scratch. We are offering the people of Brighton and Hove something unique.”

Raise Bakery opened in response to customer requests after building up a reputation during its six years working directly with retailers, wholesalers and airlines.

It will be freelancer friendly with power points and superfast broadband, as well as a community workspace with bookable meeting and workshop space.

Raise bakes all its own products from scratch in Worthing, sourcing ingredients from British suppliers where possible.

It only uses only natural ingredients, free from preservatives, artificial flavours and colourings with no hydrogenated fats.
