A REGIONAL building company has been awarded a £5 million project to extend a specialist school.

Tanbridge House School, a mathematics, science and community college in Horsham, will be developed into an institution that can accommodate up to 1,500 pupils aged from 11-16 years.

Construction business Beard began work in April on two new blocks and two extensions, and plans for it to be finished by the time term begins in September 2016.

The money comes from West Sussex County Council to improve the school’s specialisms and extend into adult education.

Jules White, headteacher at Tanbridge House School, said: “We are extremely excited about securing new investment in Tanbridge House School.

"Everyone in our school community is keen to see the development of infrastructure which will enhance our excellent current provision.”

The council's capital projects manager Geoff Tee said: “The school, the contractors and the council have pulled together to plan this project so it minimises disruption to the school.”
