Jeremy Burbidge, MD of Ticketmedia, based at Maple Works, Old Shoreham Rd, Hove, answers our questions.

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive at work?

Grab a coffee and catch up with the production staff so we can assess the plan for the day.

What work worries keep you awake at night?

Silly little things! Can I work this or that machine to a certain calibration? Sorry I'm boring you already!

Do you lunch in or out of the office?

Lunch? I'm running a business! No one day is ever the same. It may be a client meeting or may be a staff get together. Or I may be stuck under a machine working out which calibration works best! See question above!

Where do you like to meet away from the office?

That would depend very much on whom I am meeting. If it's a client then it would be their choice. If they didn't know the area I would recommend Hotel du Vin or if just a quick drink and to show off the city, the i360 has great wow factor

What’s the proudest you’ve been with a recent piece of work?

Seeing my team handle the complete rebrand of my company.

Where do you network?

London, Brighton and various European cities, as well as the United States. The expression global village has never been more true and I still believe that people buy from people and your word is your bond.

How do you exercise?

I've been a fanatical squash player since I was 13 and play twice a week, my six-year-old daughter rides ponies so that keeps me on my toes too!

What qualities do you look for when looking to hire a new recruit?

Honesty and integrity.

What is the best thing about business in Brighton and Hove?

The diversity and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Location helps as well, it's a lovely place to live, being located an hour away from a major international airport and our capital city is obviously an added bonus.

What one thing would improve the quality of your working life?

Being able to switch off on occasions would be nice! But I don't think it's quite in my make-up, I think my family would testify to that!

What would be your absolute dream job?

I'm doing it!

What is your top tip for business success?

Don't be afraid of mistakes, they will happen! That’s how you learn and how you deal with them makes the difference between a bad business and a good one.
