As part of Brighton Chamber’s continuing series of events and workshops for charities and social enterprises, it hosts a Facebook for Charities workshop given by ‘communications genius’, Kate Bacon. The workshop is part of the Chamber’s bite-sized learning initiative and will be held on April 9th from 9.30 to 11.30 at the Sussex Cricket Ground.

Kate Bacon provides hands-on communications guidance for businesses across a variety of sectors; she specialises in web strategy, design and social media. Kate also volunteers her services to charitable organisations and recently set-up the social media system used by the Bodhisattva Kadampa Buddhist meditation centre in Hove.

Kate said: “Facebook is particularly good for charities wanting to connect with a target audience, as Facebook creates a real online community.”

The ‘Facebook for Charities’ workshop will focus on how to get the most out of Facebook and will explore online network building and how to optimise exposure. The main focus is on charities, although Facebook is a social media tool that can benefit most businesses. Facebook works particularly well for charities because they often have a message that people can immediately engage with, which then prompts them to like and share material posted online.

Social media is becoming an increasingly important tool in business strategy and promotion and understanding how it works it vital. The ‘Facebook for Charities’ workshop aims to explore how, what and why social media tools such as Facebook can and should be used productively.

Kate says: “Being social media savvy means sharing the right content, building a community and engaging with an audience.”
