Christmas cards, carrier bags and understanding between faiths

Every year Rabbi Elizabeth Tikvah Sarah, the Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue Rabbi, receives a Christmas card from the City Council. Receiving such a card, when a Chanukkah card could be seen as more appropriate, is viewed as “cultural insensitivity” by the Rabbi.

Looking For Something Different ?

If you are looking for a new experience, are interested or just curious in the spiritual and possess an open mind, then this coming Sunday’s ‘Spirit of the Millennium Festival 2009’ could just be the thing for you. Billed as “The Feel Good Festival”, the event takes place at Hove Town Hall between 10.30am and 7.30pm. Admission is £2.50 (free for children under 12) and all proceeds go to the Brighthelm Healing Trust. The Brighthelm Healing Trust are a non-profit making charitable trust that promotes spiritual healing in Sussex.

Goldsmid prepares to play Kingmaker

The 23rd July by-election may be the most important local council election ever held in this area. The resignation of Conservative Councillor Paul Lainchbury removed the single vote majority the Conservative Administration could achieve on any one issue if all the opposition parties voted together against them. This puts a lot of power into voters hands right now! You need to question these people and find out what they offer in exchange for your vote and your trust.

Sackville Trading Estate application up for decision

The planning committee meets at 2pm every 3rd Wednesday at Hove Town Hall for Councillors to consider and decide planning applications that come to them. On 22nd July, The Sackville Trading Estate application is on the agenda, with a recommendation from officers "Minded to Grant".

Goldsmid Ward By-Election Candidates Announced

Following the closure of nominations last Friday to stand in the City Council by-election in Goldsmid ward, the candidates have been confirmed as follows: Maria McCallum - UK Independence Party Alexandra Phillips - Green Party Brian Ralfe - Independent Howard Spencer - Liberal Democrat Lis Telcs - Labour Party Andrew Wealls - Conservative Party The election will take place on 23rd July 2009 and the last day that candidates may withdraw from the election is noon on the 1st July.

Free lunchtime concerts at All Saints Church
