A lot of locomotion at the little locomotive's 60th Anniversary

The miniature steam railway in Hove Park is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year. A number of people, tourists and residents alike, enjoyed the extended opening hours and paid 6 denarius (£1) for their little trip on the narrow railway line on 1st May.

Tucked away in a leafy corner of the park the ‘train station’ manned by members of the Brighton and Hove Society of Miniature Locomotive Engineers’ is complete with traffic signals and Funnels Tunnel established in 1991 where a glow-in-the-dark skeleton hangs! The journey takes about 8 minutes.

To mark the special day there was a display of the miniature locomotives made by the members and included a steam tractor made by local resident, mechanical engineer Mike Norfolk, a member of the club for 12 years.

The Brighton and Hove Society of Miniature Locomotive Engineers has about 80 members and celebrated the anniversary by holding a BBQ in the park itself for society members. The Mayor also paid a visit and took a trip on the miniature train.
