The city gave the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh a right royal welcome as they arrived at Brighton train station.

Crowds lined the streets to try to catch a glimpse of the royalty as they stepped off the train ahead of their visit.

There were about 100 people waiting on the platform.

Cheers could be hear as Her Majesty waved to the crowd and people thrust bouquets towards her.

People from as far away as New Zealand and Canada were waiting to see the Queen.

The Queen was in an overcoast as she stepped off the train.

Her Majesty and Prince Philip arrived in the city at 10.18am and were welcomed by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Phyllida Stewart-Roberts and the station manager.

They were then driven by car to the Theatre Royal Brighton in New Road.

The sunny day encouraged scores of people to gather along the street as they waved flags and took pictures.

The Queen last visited the city six years ago.
