Find the perfect career in 2009
Finding your dream career is never easy and, as the recent increase in unemployment figures shows, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to succeed in the job-hunting game.
According to new research by the Office for National Statistics the UK has seen the biggest quarterly rise in unemployment since 1992. Combine that with the reported drop in job vacancies and a slowdown in bigger pay packets and it makes for grim reading.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. Whether you’re currently unemployed or on the lookout for a new position, there are plenty of ways to get ahead in the great job hunt.
You are about to make one of the biggest life changing decisions you will ever be faced with so it is advisable to get yourself organised and draw up a targeted list of action points to do every day. It can be easy to fall into the trap of sitting at home and worrying instead of getting out there and taking action.
GETTING STARTED
Redundancy, a change of direction or returning to work
after childcare — there are a whole host of reasons why
thousands of people are currently hunting for suitable jobs.
But the practice of getting started is similar for all of us.
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that the more jobs you apply for the higher your chances of success.
It's much better to adopt a targeted, focused approach, applying for roles that really interest you and that you can make a real contribution to — that way it’s much easier to get an interview and sell yourself effectively.
Updating your CV is an integral part of securing that much-coveted career.
Make sure you have a 2009 CV. If you have a good CV, you will go a long way to securing you an interview.
