Noodles was a quirky piece of entertainment that challenged the barriers between circus and theatre.

The show, devised by NoFitState Circus who are the mainstay of new and contemporary circus in the United Kingdom, was a clever mixture of aerial acrobatics, balancing feats and wire-walking interspersed with mime, comedy and baffling conjuring tricks.

Five oddball characters took over the stage that was festooned with hanging ropes and invited the audience to enter a mad world where noodles appeared from nowhere, developed a life of their own and eventually engulfed the entire area.

Amidst this chaos incredible feats of aerial gymnastics were performed that dazzled with their complexity and stunned with sheer beauty. At one point three artists hung from their ropes and execute a synchronized ballet.

One of the highlights was the wire-walking, both serious and comic. It triumphantly concluded with a Marilyn Monroe lookalike, complete with the iconic white dress, traversing the wire whilst wind machines below her recreated the subway grating scene.

While some of the zany comedy may not have been fully appreciated, the artistry and gymnastic skills certainly were by the sell-out audience who roared their approval.
