In an age of recycled jukebox shows, Loserville is a noisy but fun alternative with an original storyline and pop-rock score written by James Bourne (Busted and Son Of Dork) and Elliot Davis.

The stars from Apollo Productions bubble over with enthusiasm as they present the geeks versus jocks high school musical set in 1971.

Bryn Lines plays lead character Michael Dork, a bullied computer nerd in a race to send the first ever email.

Michael falls for new girl Holly (Kate Booth) who dreams of being the first female astronaut, but he has competition from vain jock Eddie (Louis Livesey-Clare).

What follows blends Glee, High School Musical, Grease and The Big Bang Theory.

The cast perform the songs, either inspired by or from Son Of Dork’s album, hyper-actively, but while they are catchy, the show is missing that stand-out number you remember after leaving the theatre.

The acting is confident and the set and props are effective. The over-sized pencils, circuit board flooring and flashcards transforming from lipsticks to drills compliment the geek chic and comic book aesthetic.

This bouncy, bubblegum musical is unashamedly cheesy and clichéd yet because of its youthful vitality it is impossibly loveable and a fine showcase for vibrant talent.
