There are not many gigs which draw a crowd spanning the generations.

McBusted did. The cluster of 20-somethings – the original Busted and McFly fans – were a given, but the handful of pensioners, with and without grandchildren, and scores of excitable teenagers were a surprise.

It seems the pop super group of the moment is a roaring success.

McFly’s Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter and Busted’s James Bourne and Matt Willis exploded onto the stage in the second instalment of their computer game/cartoon action themed tour.

To the backdrop of a giant gaming machine – which the band mates later demonstrated in a live battle – their latest collaborations reverberated out over the venue. It was still the classic hits, although a little Busted-heavy, which lit up the crowd.

The band got top marks for audience participation. Fond remarks about Brighton were met with loud whoops and their dialogue saw the crowd collapsing in raucous laughter. It was clear the musicians were not only accomplished and at ease on stage but there was a huge sense of fun about the performance.

They were just a bunch of mates having a good time who wanted the audience to join in too.
