No Festival would be complete without its signature sprawling outdoor events.

The ever-popular Children's Parade is back. But two other outdoor events jump out of the programme as potential highlights.

The first is Safe House in Hove Park on May 17 and the second One Million at Black Rock, Madeira Drive, on the final weekend (May 23 and 24).

The former, produced and performed by the Metro-Boulot-Dodo company, is expected to be a family friendly affair - despite the 9pm start time.

Exploring the idea and concept of home, tens of performers will lead the audience on a poetic journey.

With the use of live performance, visual art, specific installations and stunning visual effect, the group will explore a variety of situations.

From the young couple moving to their dream home to the teenager desperate to leave - and old lady unable to leave.

The emotional - and free - performance is expected to be one of this year's highlights.

The following Saturday will see the Festival's second large scale performance with Tangled Feet's One Million.

The Festival exclusive will see a huge cast of youngsters explore the impact caused by the country's high levels of unemployment.

Expect high-voltage physical theatre, dazzling pyrotechnics, large scale effects and bone rattling music in this also free event.

Much Ado About Nothing in St Nicholas Rest Gardens (May 22) and Down By The Greenwood Side in Harvey's Depot in Lewes will ensure there are spectacular performances at even more spectacular locations for all.
