With the Labour Party conference in town, it was inevitable that some of our best comic talent should show their support at this fundraiser.

Stephen K Amos compered the show with skill, targeting members of the audience. From this, he built up routines involving him working in America and a hilarious comparison of the youth of today with the political depredations of his childhood.

Welshman Lloyd Langford proved to be a very droll comedian whose dry delivery added an extra element to his material that stretched from Port Talbot to Australia.

Jo Brand delighted with some witty observations on feminine issues, as well as using her husband and daughters for the butt of some superb comedy.

The most political material of the evening came from John Bishop who mixed attacks on the Government with a splendid tale of visiting 10 Downing Street, much against his conscience. He was not afraid to use sexism or debunk PC to raise a laugh.

Heading the bill was Eddie Izzard, a taste I have yet to acquire, whose surreal ramblings from human sacrifices through to God as a scuba diver may have pleased the majority of the audience but passed me by.
