Now that the Royal Pavilion ice rink has packed up for another year, what can ice skating fans look forward to?
No worries on this front folks – Robin Cousins’ Ice show is in town until February 2, offering a chance to see how it’s really done.
Dancing On Ice head judge and Olympic champion Cousins has gathered together an experienced and talented group who dazzle the audience with breathtaking displays.
This is no-frills ice skating, without the distractions of complicated storylines, props or costumes to get in the way but with plenty of thrills, lifts, twists and mesmerising moves. Watch out for the two flying somersaults towards the end, and when it comes to the lifts just ask yourself, “How?”
Ice is seamlessly choreographed and the multiple sequences flow well. After a gentle start, the two-part show builds to a rousing finale, which on opening night had the audience whooping and left me breathless.
Canadian Olympian Vaughn Chipeur and soloist Brandee Malto deserve special mention for their flashy and sometimes cheeky performances.
Of course, if you simply can’t get enough of ice dancing do not despair: the Winter Olympics are just round the corner. Bring it on.
