Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish, with their bouncy ska punk songs about liking girls who don’t like you back, drinking lots of beer and the myriad difficulties of growing up, have been adored by teenagers for decades. Since they started releasing records in the early 90s, and through ever-evolving line-ups, these two bands have become institutions. Less Than Jake’s set was a pleasing blend of their less famous tracks for the die-hard fans and sing-a-long classics such as Gainesville Rock City and All My Best Friends Are Metalheads. Reel Big Fish also played the hits everyone wanted to hear, including Beer and Sell Out, to the crowd’s delight.

Though the bands didn’t look like they’d aged in the past ten years, most of their fans have – at the back of the packed Concorde 2 there was a distinct increase in the number of cuddling couples in the audience, and a distinct decrease in the number of coloured mohawks and baggy jean shorts. But first impressions can be deceiving and, at the heart of the crowd, there was a traditional mosh-pit filled with sweaty beaming fans who had been transported back to their teenage years.
