Brighton audiences are privileged to receive a visit from this prestigious modern dance company. They provide great dancing in four disparate offerings making up a sandwich with top-quality bread but less satisfying filling.

The Castaways depict lost souls in a hell of their own making – shades of Sartre’s Huis Clos. An Emcee narrates while dances are performed illustrating each inmate’s story. A dream sequence with floating lovers is matched for excellence with the tussle over a loaf of bread that evolves into a fierce depiction of warfare.

Dutiful Ducks is a short solo piece where the dancer depicts the ducks that distracted the choreographer while attending a conference. There is no music, only a babble of words – no doubt those from the conference.

Sounddance is a feast of movement for the eyes but a torment for the ears. It is danced to electronic noise that reminded me of the interference from the radios of my childhood.

Rooster ends the programme and is a glorious celebration of the music of the Rolling Stones. Eight great tracks enable the dancers to literally strut their stuff with chicken movements. Little Red Rooster sets the scene, with the males preening before indifferent females.
