Brighton is known as the mod capital of the world and Miles Kane hitting Concorde 2 on Wednesday night was like stepping into a time capsule from the 1960s.

The seafront was awash with parkas and sideburns as the former Rascals frontman, also known as one-half of The Last Shadow Puppets and the fifth Arctic Monkey, took to the stage.

Heralded by the football-esque chant of “Miles, Miles, Miles”, the Merseyside mod kicked off with punchy indie number Inhaler.

Kane’s performance was brimming with an unmistakable energy and confidence, sending the crowd wild with a well-balanced set taken from his two albums.

With crowd pleasers such as Come Closer, Rearrange, Don’t Forget Who You Are and Taking Over, Kane didn’t take his foot off the gas throughout the set – finishing the night standing bathed in sweat.

An impromptu cover of Rolling Stones classic Sympathy For The Devil during the extended refrain of Give Up was a noteworthy highlight.

The music press have often referred to him as arrogant and sometimes conceited, but on stage that self-assured demeanour translated to an unmatched intensity.

Kane’s following grows with every release, and it is easy to see why.
