An evening with Kate Rusby is akin to being curled up by the fire in a pair of fluffy slippers with a warm cup of tea in your hand – pure unashamed cosiness.
The dainty folk singer-songwriter from Barnsley took to the stage at the Connaught in Worthing on Saturday night, providing a selection of heart-warming classics from her 22-year career.
Also known as The Barnsley Nightingale, Rusby is renowned for her distinctive sweet, soft voice and there was no doubting that she was on top form.
With a crystal clear sound that is note perfect and utterly heartfelt, Rusby has a presence that can best be described as enchanting.
Rusby is not a larger-than-life icon swaggering about the stage; she is a tiny Yorkshire gal who occasionally appeared on stage swaddled in an overcoat and nursing a cup of tea telling homely stories about her family.
Her manner combined with the utter sincerity of the music made the whole show feel particularly intimate – almost magical.
The audience was left with a warm glow as Rusby provided an evening of folk guaranteed to melt the coldest of hearts.
