With Jersey Boy storming the West End and a film adaptation now in cinemas, cynics may assume Let’s Hang On to be yet another cash-in.

They would be wrong. This tribute to the music of Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons is a slick and authentic show performed by talented musicians who clearly love what they do.

The small ensemble consisted of Dino Buttarazzi on lead guitar, Martin Peat on bass guitar and Scott Walker on the drums.

However, pocket-sized powerhouse Robin Maughan stole the show as frontman Frankie Valli. Embodying the confidence and charm of Valli, he hit the spine-tingling falsetto notes with ease.

He also provided anecdotes, comedy and led audience participation.

The first half told the story of the band’s formation. Recreating doo-wop singing in an a cappella version of Blue Moon was a highlight, showcasing strong harmonies in the distinctive Four Seasons’ style.

The second half was party time as a three-piece brass section joined the cast. Classic hits Big Girls Don’t Cry, Cherry and Walk Like A Man ensured the audience were up on their feet and dancing in the aisles.

The encore of Let’s Hang On received a much deserved standing ovation.
