For a night of rock ‘n’ roll, risqué humour, big hair and tight trousers, look no further than Rock Of Ages.

Following a successful run in London’s West End, the jukebox musical is touring the UK.

Set in the 1980s, it tells the story of two youngsters, Drew and Sherrie, who fall in love at The Bourbon Room, an infamous Hollywood nightclub which is threatened by a German developer.

The soundtrack is packed with hair metal classics, including We Built This City, Wanted Dead Or Alive and The Final Countdown.

Having played Galileo in We Will Rock You, Noel Sullivan of Hear’Say fame is outstanding as Drew, with powerful rock vocals and an impressive range.

Rock Of Ages is not highbrow theatre, nor does it want to be. This nostalgic musical is incredibly self-aware and plays strictly for laughs, poking fun at clichés such as the arrogant rockstar and the groupies.

Constantly breaking the fourth wall, Chris Southgate is hilarious as Lonny, the narrator.

However, one thing the show does take seriously is the music.

The talented live band is onstage, rather than in the pit, which is a refreshing change and Monday night’s crowd erupted after the big, loud and proud finale of Don’t Stop Believing.
