Pennsylvanian quartet P***** Jeans have spewed their cathartic punk rock into the world for a decade, but their latest album, the 2013 Sub Pop release Honeys, has revealed a more constructed and refined version of their sound.

The Haunt’s show was heavy on Honeys with a few pointed nods to their lesser-known tracks from previous albums, as well as old favourites.

Frontman Matt Korvette has a worthy reputation for lyrical wit and depraved delivery, and his performance was deserving of the hype: he screamed into the mic, rolled around the stage, made up ditties, told some flagrant lies and generally seemed to have a great time.

This enthusiasm was reflected by the audience, where stage-divers’ limbs flailed wistfully above aggressively-driven air guitars.

With a name like P***** Jeans, it’s obvious the band care less about press popularity than most of their contemporaries.

And there was a certain nostalgia to their style – it was an old school, traditional American rock show, with a camaraderie in the crowd, united in respect and admiration for a band who probably cared more about maintaining this awe than they’d like to admit, but deserved every scrap of it for their dynamic, exuberant performance.
