Nothing’s cranked up guitars and blissful riffs left eardrums shattered after an eventful set at Green Door Store.
Recent LP, Guilty Of Everything, sees a darker turn on the band’s melodic predecessors. Focussing more on muddy, droned rhythms and wispy vocals, the unique, well-rounded sound has turned heads. Crowds crammed into the Brighton venue, anticipating a brain-vibrating set.
Performing the record in its entirety, the Philadelphians showed why they have a reputation for insane tightness. Huge, perfectly sculptured guitar tones constantly strived to create a wall of sound. However, the ear bleeding volume quickly took its toll, with guitarist and frontman, Dominic Palermo, blowing his amplifier early on. An awkward short break followed, with a few brief Nirvana tributes before a replacement was found.
The four-piece are openly reluctant on live vocals, and allowed their own to become totally lost. This frustratingly brought the performance down a level, with a clear gap apparent in the sound throughout. Even when one fan exclaimed this, it was quickly shrugged off as a dig at the group.
These vocal issues sadly marred what could have been a mind-blowing set from a band which possesses a ridiculous amount of ability.
