Ever since Bloc Party stormed the charts with Silent Alarm in 2005, their ex-front-man Kele has been reluctantly pushed into the limelight.

Despite his continued dislike of self-promotion and admirable unwillingness to be marketed on anything other than his musical skill, Kele has developed a large and dedicated fan-base.

A lot of them were packed into the Dome Studio Theatre awaiting his return to the stage for one final 2014 show.

Kele started his set tenderly, before sliding into garage-influenced On The Lam and then upping the tempo with Everything You Wanted.

This was clearly a well-prepared set that allowed him to demonstrate his musical diversity, and by midway through his set, he had the audience heaving and whooping along.

With a variety of songs from his two solo albums and EP, and a track or two from Bloc Party’s back catalogue, he kept both new and old fans enthralled.

The visuals were by David Altweger and perfectly complemented the setlist, as personalised and vast scenes played out in turn.

There was a little audience interaction but even that seemed carefully timed and pre-planned, resulting in a show that was technically brilliant, but polished to the extent that much of the raw vitality that Kele is famed for was lost.
