Christmas is a time to expect 'magic moments', and Lyngo Theatre's one-man show didn't disappoint on that front.

From golden eggs to giant shoes; imaginary cows to snowy milkshakes, there were some beautiful tableaux created, with the unnamed actor using an assortment of props to create some beautiful imagery.

But in between these moments, the story itself dragged a little, with far too much time dedicated to Jack's journey to market - hardly the most fun part of the tale when there are magic beans and child-eating giants waiting around the corner.

With the actor stepping out and acting as narrator a lot of the time, the action never really flowed, although the pace picked up in certain sequences when he allowed himself to be immersed back into the story - for example, when Jack was stealing from the giant.

To entertain a theatre full of little ones is no mean feat though, and small details such as the fidgety mouse made lots of children giggle relentlessly.

So perhaps this really was a chocolate box of a show - overall rather lovely, but with some bits you'd rather leave out.
