Tipped by the BBC to be one of 2015’s bright young things and with her long-awaited debut album Unguarded nestling in the top 10, it’s been a buoyant start to the year for Rae Morris.

By modern standards, the 21-year old singer songwriter’s progress has been something of a slow burn. Signed to Atlantic at 18, Morris has been afforded the luxury of time and space to develop her musical identity.

On the evidence of this sold out show the investment of faith by her record label has paid off.

Despite being tucked behind her keyboard for the majority of her 60-minute set Blackpool-born Morris delivered her delicate waves of dark electro pop with precision and power.

Her voice beguiled on opener Skin, bewitched on the coming-of-age Grow and soared on the upbeat Morne Fortune.

It was during the plaintive Don’t Go, however, that she delivered the genuinely crowd-arresting moment of the night.

Morris has already attracted some heavyweight comparisons including Kate Bush and Florence Welch. That may have more to do with the mermaid-like mane of hair and whiff of marketable quirkiness, but given continued room to grow, Morris could become a truly compelling live performer.
