Fran Bushe, Kat Cade and Perdita Stott are Kitten Killers.

A bawdy, frenetic comedy troupe, they rattled through dozens of sketches on their Brighton Fringe opening night.

Most of the sketches were based on puns, some of which worked better than others, and each one was punctuated by a blast of nostalgic pop music and drastic dimmed lighting.

There were a couple of musical numbers in their set, which worked really well; their voices were a bit calmer, the lyrics were witty and sharp, and there was less urgent darting about the stage.

Some of their more successful sketches were, unusually, the ones without the puns or dialogue: they could create engaging characters through mime alone, without the need for a punch-line.

All three were brilliantly expressive and capable – particularly Bushe – and they were skilled at commanding attention on the stage, but there were some dud sketches which let them down.

Kitten Killers looked like they enjoyed their fast-paced, frantic approach, but it would benefit them to slow down a bit and dedicate more time to their finer material.

There’s some comedy gold buried in there, but it needs a bit more mining.
