A one-man show where the star has lost his voice is surely a recipe for disaster.

But illustrator Nick Sharratt shrugged off the fact he couldn’t speak to delight kids and big kids alike with his drawing masterclass.

The man who brought us children’s favourites ‘Pants’ and ‘Don’t Put Your Finger in the Jelly Nelly’ simply roped in a friend to do his talking for him.

And as a picture is supposed to paint a thousand words it did not make a jot of difference as Sharratt focused on what he does best – drawing.

Kids were given pencils and paper so they could copy Sharratt as he created some of his favourite characters like Tracy Beaker right in front of our eyes.

The pictures were beamed onto a big screen so little ones could follow every pen stroke and were then encouraged to bring their efforts forward, which was a nice touch.

His method of drawing is so simple that it was easy to follow and some of the end results were pretty impressive.

My five-year-old daughter Beth was enthralled for the whole 50 minutes and insisted I gave it a four star rating even though I was veering towards a three.
