Golem is a tale of creation and destruction; an exploration of subservience and retaliation; an examination of introspection and awareness.

Written and performed by actor Richard Waring, the show is being staged at the Zu Studios in Lewes in support of Phoenix Rising – an action group set up to protect and preserve jobs and industries in Phoenix Way as well as ensuring the area is earmarked for mixed housing.

Created by his master from mud to provide protection for the people of Prague, Golem could also epitomise the story of the battle to prevent an area being bulldozed to make way for yet another faceless development.

Just as the Jews of Prague tried to stand up to their oppressors so the people of Lewes are being urged to make a stand to protect small businesses, a balanced community and affordable housing.

The psyche Golem may be difficult for audience to unravel but the play was a drama class by a man who includes acting, drama classes, psychology teaching and writing among his many talents.

The message of the evening is clear – enter the debate to enhance and preserve the mixed use and cultural benefits of the area while the opportunity remains.
