Recently opened, Junkyard Dogs in Edward Street held its first open night on Friday featuring acts from across Brighton and Sussex – and the owners are hoping that it will be the first of many.

The bar which sells gourmet hot dogs, coffees, drinks is currently refurbishing with a view to opening a small theatre space for drama and music events in Kemp Town.

Acts included Jack Turner and Ross Skilbeck who came together to perform as a piano/guitar duo for the evening prior to the launch of Jack’s first solo album as well as a slot by local DJ Sam Bloore.

A performance art show by Zazilie Currie featuring an extremely raunchy take on the appetites of fox hunting got the evening off to a thoughtful but amusing start before Dizzy Tales took the top slot with a stand out performance. Other performers included Louis Zarate, Tom Salway and Josephine McNamara.

The success of the evening was enhanced by the intimacy of venue which enabled the artists and friends to mix with the audience between acts before showing off their skills in relaxed surroundings.

Judging by the turnout, there are likely to be many repeat performances.
