Sometimes a remark can deflate a room.

Teen punk soundalikes Summer Camp's Brighton gig had the atmosphere and feeling that we were about to see a band on the edge of stardom and do very big things.

But there was only so much one could tolerate until this feeling disappeared.

A few songs in and Elizabeth Sankey, lead vocalist of the indie-ish, hipster-ish foursome with a dash of lovelorn 1990s, was doing a fine job, hitting the high notes and getting the crowd going.

But then, out of nowhere, the bomb dropped.

Sankey decided to have a little chat with the audience in between songs and while doing this managed to deflate the whole room.

Summer Camp have recently become quite popular due to their fantastic soundtrack which accompanied a recently released movie.

The movie in question was recently released onto a popular streaming channel.

Sankey decided to reference this by, first, asking if people had heard of the soundtrack, then replying to the crowd's cheers by saying: "Well someone's got Netflix" before singing a few songs from the soundtrack.

It wasn't the way it was delivered but the sheer arrogance of a band who would mock their own hard work and good fortune.

Bands would die for that kind of exposure. After the remark was made, the room stank of a band who felt as though they were too good for their audience, and the atmosphere just wasn't the same.

This being said, their performance was solid, even if the band's decision to skip to the last song was discussed over the live microphones for the whole venue to hear.

Overall a good performance musically, but not the memorable one that I had anticipated.
