On International Women’s Day Katherine Ryan held the stage with a confidence to celebrate.

No way was she going to apologise for taking up too much space, or having too much to say for herself as a woman.

Ryan’s don’t care attitude was not an acerbic defiance to get her noticed; rather she delivered a practical observation of life in her trademark straight-talking, with more than a touch of sardonic wit.

This has been known to get her in trouble on TV panel shows, if rarely can she find a monkey’s to give.

The tampon tax, Peter Andre and Katie Price, Joan Rivers, and Taylor Swift were all subject to her derision.

She might have been on shaky ground with sixteen-year-old Imogen’s dad: having established she wasn’t his young and beautiful date for the night, she warned Imogen against guys that ‘rate assholes’.

‘The girl squad’ from high school judge Ryan now on her 32-year old non-married status. They don’t get it: with a six-year-old daughter, two dogs, two cats, eight rabbits, her life is Disneyland – with poo.

They will get more than they wish for from Ryan’s blatant maid-of-honour speech at her sister’s wedding soon, rehearsed here to hilarity.
