From the moment Half Moon Run struck a note you could feel an urgency to their songs.

A sense of intensity and drive made possible by skilled musicianship and tight vocal harmonies.

The Canadian four piece released their second album ; 'Sun Leads Me On', in October 2015 and have a wealth of new material.

Their new songs show a band moving forward, with a new set of musical ideas.

Differing from the experimental acoustic nature of their accomplished debut album Dark Eyes, their new sound is more synth led verging at times psychedelic electronica.

This was to the benefit of the gig as they could dip into each album building atmosphere with more variation.

A freshness enhanced by constant switching of instruments, at times using two drummers, then two synths, or three guitars.

The band who are masters of building sound through complex layering of guitar and vocal harmonies, were at their most magical when the two lead guitar riffs danced and tangled with each other, filling the shadowy arches of the church knave.

With many highlights, like the pulsing and lyrically dark I Can't Figure Out What's Going On, they finished with their hit Full Circle, leaving the crowd buzzing.

Four stars.
