Depending on your predilection the appearance of one of Wu-Tang Clan’s seminal members on the Concorde 2 stage was either short and sweet or just shortchange.
Ghostface Killah’s tardiness is well known but it usually comes with the expectancy of an extended set. He arrived on stage 30 minutes late at 10pm and played for 40 minutes. The venue’s curfew, handily included on the set-times poster, was 11pm.
In his time on the mic Ghost made the most of it. Alongside hype-man Killah Priest, the legendary MC fired through some of his most famous verses.
His work with the Wu will always reserve the most acclaim. Even the sadly departed Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Shimmy Shimmy Ya got an airing, despite no Ghost presence on the original cut. The man knows what the crowd likes.
Ghost also likes the crowd. One local in particular was given the chance to show off his prowess on the mic and Wu knowledge by rapping Method Man’s section of Protect Ya Neck. Much to the crowd and Ghost’s delight he delivered.
Everyone was left wanting more of everything, but sadly Ghostface did not deliver. Instead he slipped off to the merch stand to sign paid-for hats, t-shirts and records. Forever a hustler.
