Since 2006, when Sandi Thom arrived with her song I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker, she has had her run-ins with the music industry.
RCA dropped her in 2009. In 2015 she posted a tearful YouTube video, berating BBC Radio 2 for not playlisting her new single.
There was a desperate arrogance about that which was all over this gig, in front of barely 100 people.
Thom's music has a bluesy feel but technically her guitar playing did not carry the songs with any colour or interest. Her vocal was strong and confident yet empty and soulless. The set was flat because every song sounded the same, and Thom did not communicate her lyric. The effect was dirge like, a series of middle-of-the-road demos.
Her chat rambled and was self-indulgent to the point of embarrassment - did she have to share the details of her breastfeeding habits?
Thom's arrogance was there when she recounted asking her idol Buffy Sainte Marie to sing with her, rather than asking "May I sing with you?"
Her performance was riddled with such glimpses of a personality that has clearly affected her career and is at the heart of her creativity.
If Thom ever was a star she is now a dying one.
