A triple line up of local Sussex bands delivered almost three hours faultless music for a free gig at this Brighton venue on Saturday Headlining was the newly formed outfit They Spit Blood. Singer Bonith Romanova held the set together with her powerful blues tinged vocals while lead guitarist Guenifer Raymond provided support that was reminiscent of some of the early r and b greats of the 60s.
Don’t Bring Me Down and Your Indifference (Is a Carpet Bomb) would have not have sounded out of place on a John Mayall or Pretty Things’ album.
Also on the bill was grunge-metal outfit from Redhill, Trevor’s Head. The band performed with drive and gusto without falling into the trap of losing subtleness and depth for volume and thrash. The three complemented each other with their distinctive voices and the set demanded attention.
Icarus Falls filled the second slot. The band from Storrington were more garage but stood out because of the outstanding vocals of their lead singer, Dougie Hay whose delivery and range was mesmerising.
Each of the bands was distinctive in their own right and each delivered something special to the evening.
