Performing to a near capacity audience of mixed ages, the Le Navet Bete Theatre company start their offbeat journey down the yellow brick road, with an exuberant energy and warmth that they carry through the whole show.
The story is The Wizard of Oz, a tale we all know well.
Here, however, it is told with such an irreverent and anarchic sense of fun that the plot is just a vehicle for masterful physical comedy.
There are hilarious dance routines, a razor sharp script and audience participation; at one point the cast climb through the seating area to much shrieking and laughter.
This theatre is accessible to any age, and my nine-year-old daughter was enjoying it as much as me. The absorbing performances are high octane and it’s hard to believe that you are watching just four actors.
Special mentions to Al Dunn for brilliantly playing the Tin Man with a communist twist and perhaps the most naturally gifted comedian Matt Freeman as the idiotic scarecrow.
This is a wonderful show that bounces along with the laughter of the audience from beginning to end. Get a ticket while you can.
