The All-Star Stand-Up Tour

****

The Connaught Theatre, Worthing, June 14

FOUR stand-up comedians brought a wealth of experience and very different sets to the Connaught Theatre.

Compere Jarred Christmas opened the show with a side-splitting set. The larger than life comic and 8 Out Of 10 Cats star’s charming but cutting conversational comedy had the audience in stitches, poking fun at the local area and the audience itself.

Quick-thinking Christmas also provided sharp and hilarious retorts to several hecklers, so it was almost a shame when he left the stage.

However, the next comic, Phoenix Nights star Justin Moorhouse, soon had the audience laughing again with clever observations and self-deprecating humour.

Mike Gunn, who appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, followed with deadpan wit and jokes about marriage, parenting and public toilets.

Canadian comedian Stewart Francis finished off proceedings with biting and frequently hilarious one liners.

At one point the audience sounded like they were struggling to breathe as they attempted to recover from his fast-paced comedy onslaught.

Despite some jokes falling flat, the gags had a generally high hit rate and the audience were all smiles leaving the theatre.
