The Argus: The Impellers

The Impellers

From: Brighton

Profile: Originally starting out as Ed Meme And The Forms, The Impellers changed their name when they were signed to Freestyle Records last year. Their first single How Am I? sold out quickly, and apparently caused a punch-up over the last copy between two vinyl junkies in Melbourne, Australia.

The single is a taster of the upcoming 11-track album Robot Legs, out on Monday, July 27. It is packed full of the band’s trademark deep funk and heavy soul – complete with a huge horn section, Hammond organ, percussion from the legendary Snowboy and soulful vocals by frontwoman Lady Clair. The band played the main stage at last year’s Beachdown Festival, and has also appeared at some of London’s legendary venues including Club 100, Koko and Cargo. They have also had their music played on BBC 6Music, BBC Radio Two, Jazz FM and Brighton’s own Juice FM.
