• Pink Fringe and Traumfrau presents Women’s Day Spectacular
Wagner Hall, Russell Place, Brighton, Saturday, March 8

Five-strong East London performance troupe Figs In Wigs (pictured above) hit the South Coast for two shows this weekend.

First they perform We, Object at The Marlborough, Princes Street, Brighton, on Friday (9pm, £7.50). Then on Saturday they top the bill at an all-nighter featuring participatory theatre presented by Pink Fringe and dancing with a twist by queer club night Traumfrau.

They will be joined by Brian Lobel, the man who once concocted a show from buying people’s time; Bird la Bird, “a surrealist who puts the camp back in communism and the fun back in feminism”; and burlesque clown and comedienne Fancy Chance.

9pm to 3am, £9/£7. Visit www.pinkfringe.org.uk

  • If You Want Bigger Yorkshire Puddings, You Need A Bigger Tin
The Marlborough, Princes Street, Brighton, Friday, March 7

Lucy Hutson charts her attempts to be a domestic goddess, homemaker and mother figure in this autobiographical account of her life as “being a not-quite-woman”.

Her search for femininity unravels the conflicting emotions about her gender and gender expression, and cuts up skits of the women in her family talking about being a woman with dancing dolls and buttercream icing.

  • International Women’s Day Extravaganza
Sallis Benney Theatre, Grand Parade, Brighton, Friday, March 7

Folk roots singer-songwriter Beth Prior and jazz blues singer and guitarist Nicky Mitchell headline this benefit show for Brighton Women’s Centre, which this year celebrates its 40th birthday.

We Bop, an all-women a capella choir, plus singers Shauna Parker, Lenna Santamaria and Joyce McLeod provide more music.

Spoken word comes from Ink On My Lips, a collective of writers whose prose and poems explore identity, femininity, ancestry, prejudice, tolerance, displacement and freedom.

  • International Women’s Day 2014
Jubilee Library, Jubilee Sqaure, Brighton, Saturday, March 8

Nothing creates community like a good singalong, and the afternoon of events at Jubilee Library includes a singing workshop for all ages.

Participants of all abilities can learn to sing in unison (and, one hopes, in harmony) at the two-hour session (noon, £5/£3).

Wannabe girl super heroes aged between five and ten can dress up in their finest outift and share their ideas for mankind-saving super powers before being snapped for a portrait print, while ladies who want their inner icon revealed can take part in a professional photo shoot.

From noon to 4pm. For more information, email info@urbanflo.com
