COMING to Brighton from a tropical parallel dimension, King’s Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Dance Band welcome The Guide to their world.

“We are the Royal Dance Band of King Lagoon, ruler of a tropical parallel dimension.

It's similar to this world, but many things work quite differently. For example sound has smell. We play shows inspired by the sounds and feelings from that dimension as well as from this world. We are based in Brighton and our roots extend to Brazil, Iraq, China and Algeria.

“A messenger contacted the band leader, Rodrigo, to open up communication.

The messenger is a golden five-winged bird who brings tasty treats with other-worldy, indescribable flavours. Once they are eaten they provide inspiration to create music. The main influences from this realm are South American rhythms, West and North African melodies and Congotronics.

“King Lagoon’s world is made up of many diverse and exotic islands where his royal flotilla cruises and races, and his favourite bands play on the boats.

The King is actually a golden lagoon but takes a different, unknown form when he sails his catamaran through the many islands and into space. The song 100,000 Islands is about two characters from the realm of King Lagoon, who are playing a game on the beach, making tiny islands that float off into the sea. The first is a 'cururuja'; an animal that is like two owls in one and morphs in and out of itself. The cururuja calls for Saci Perere, a one-legged playful and mischievous little chap with a magic pipe. When the cururuja inhales the vapor from Saci's pipe and shape-shifts, a tiny island morphs out of her.

“We have a limited edition live album.

Our debut studio album is making its way steadily through the pipeline and it's going to burst out around the beginning of 2015 covered in beautifully detailed artwork. The plan is to make it smell like paradise!

“Our shows are multi-sensory-Afro-Latin-tropical-psychedelic-other-dimensional-party-time.

We have co-ordinated projections and a smell technician who creates exotic aromas. For our Spectrum show we're going to make a small jungle on stage and our flying swordfish will actually be flying through the air!”
