LEWES Road in Brighton is not exactly renowned for its eateries and has lost at least a couple of pubs in recent years.

However, “The Big Yellow Pub” is thriving and you can’t miss its colourful frontage on the Vogue Gyratory.

The pub has had a major revamp during the past few years and has been running its We Love Burgers menu since January.

Food guru James is a former pastry chef, so all the freshly prepared burgers are served in home-made brioche buns.

Fusion fare like this knocks fast-food fodder into a cocked hat and my kids were amazed at the size of the “awesome” burgers when they arrived. Chock full of meat and such a size, you have to tackle them with a knife and fork.

The Blue burger is as pretty as a picture and comes with stilton, smoked streaky bacon, mayo and caramelised onion chutney.

The Italian is just as delicious, with buffalo mozzarella, chorizo, aioli and home-made green pesto, which combines wonderfully, resembling a whole Italian meal in a bun.

If you’re feeling worse for wear, The Cry For Help is the burger you’re after, with chilli cheddar, battered onion strings, jalapenos, chorizo, Bloody Mary ketchup and a dollop of sour cream to sort you out and get you on the road to recovery.

There are also two varieties of chicken burger, including The Jerk which features chargrilled breast marinated in home-made jerk sauce, while The Buttermilk has succulent pieces of southern-fried meat with a hearty spoonful of home-made coleslaw.

Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, and I’d personally recommend The Mozzarella, which features breaded mozzarella strips that are delicious on their own, regardless of the aioli and home-made pesto.

Add to this the amazing sides, such as the gigantic onion strings and terrifically tasty chips that pack a crunch, and you’re bound to waddle away as satisfied by a wholesome meal as we all did.

The We Love Burgers menu is available from 12.30pm to 9pm, Monday to Thursday, and 1pm to 8pm on Friday and Saturday. Burger Wednesdays features two for one on any burgers between 5pm and 9pm. The pub reverts to a traditional, highly popular roast on Sundays, from 1pm to 7pm.

Children are welcome until 7pm.
